Driverless Trucking
Semi trucks are responsible for 80% of all inter-state commerce. However, the entire industry is about to radically change. Autonomous trucks are safer and far cheaper than their human counterparts. They can operate 20 to 22 hours a day and will will deduce shipping costs by about 2/3rds. As the trucking workforce average age continues to climb and drivers are retiring out of the workforce a Technology solution makes a lot of sense. Let's hope the trucking industry learns lessons from the autonomous car industry and learns to walk before they try to run. Currently, I only think this makes sense on long haul highway driving and not intra-state and last mile delivery. Bloomberg has an interesting video that goes into more details below
